Brief gusty winds and showers Monday evening cooled down scorching temperatures in the southern Las Vegas Valley.

Downpours and 40 mph winds were reported in Green Valley and the area south of McCarran International Airport, dropping temperatures about 10 degrees to the upper 90s, National Weather Service meteorologist Stan Czyzyk said. The storm system fizzled along with the windy conditions, and the chance of rain for the rest of Monday evaporated.

No other parts of the valley saw significant rainfall, Czyzyk said.

The valley will continue to see a chance of rain through the week because of the monsoon moisture. Humidity levels remain elevated at 15 to 20 percent until Friday, when the weather will begin to clear. Friday and Saturday are expected to be dry, and the moisture in the air this week isn't expected to dramatically cool down temperatures during the day, meteorologist John Salmen said.

High temperatures are expected to reach 109 and 110 degrees today through Saturday while low temperatures remain in the upper 80s to about 90 degrees, he said.

The normal high for today and Tuesday is 103 degrees with an average low of 79 degrees, he said.

Although the valley is about 5 degrees below record temperatures for this time of year, today was the 17th day in a row the temperature has reached at least 105 degrees, he said.

The record is 21 days in a row, set in 2012, Salmen said. Records go back to 1937, he said.
