Liberty’s defense couldn’t possibly play much better than it did Friday night in a 39-0 victory at Canyon Springs.
The Patriots held the Pioneers to less than 20 yards of offense, tallying multiple sacks and scoring a defensive touchdown after Nick Moniz returned a fumble forced by Rudy Bukassa.
“The defense was awesome,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said. “We stopped ourselves a lot on offense.”
Liberty led only 11-0 at halftime after struggling with penalties and turnovers. The Patriots ignited in the third quarter with long passes from Kenyon Oblad to Gavin Caci and Ethan Dedeaux, the latter going for a touchdown.
Calvin Tubbs, Darius Alston and Stephon Stowers all scored rushing touchdowns while Josh Zepeda converted on a long field goal attempt.
“We really picked things up in the second half,” Muraco said.
