Las Vegas man shares in $779,000 Powerball prize

A Las Vegas mail carrier has been identified as the winner of a $779,264 Powerball prize from a drawing last week.

A news release from the California Lottery said the postal worker, E.J. Felipe, waited three hours to purchase a lottery ticket in Primm, Calif., before the Jan. 9 drawing. His ticket matched the first five numbers in the $900 million drawing. Had he matched the Powerball number, he would have won the jackpot.

The release said Felipe purchased the ticket among a batch he shared with 14 of his wife’s co-workers. The group agreed it would split any prize money 15 ways.

Felipe said he planned to pay off debts with his share of the winnings — “and if there’s more money, taking a vacation, possibly to Disneyland.”
