Susie Lee paints opponents for Congress as ‘career politicians’

Democratic congressional hopeful Susie Lee is hitting the TV airwaves today with an ad characterizing her primary election opponents as “career politicians.”

The ad features Lee, who is running to represent Nevada’s 4th Congressional District, walking among cardboard cutouts that say “empty suit,” “all about me” and “running again.”

Lee, a local philanthropist, faces fierce competition from state Sen. Ruben Kihuen and former Assemblywoman Lucy Flores in the Democratic primary next month.

“Sometimes it seems like everywhere you look, there’s another career politician popping up, wanting to run for another office,” Lee says in the ad, an oblique shot at Kihuen and Flores. “It’s like they’re more interested in their own future than yours.”

Lee highlights her own experience advocating for education, saying she believes “elected leaders should focus on helping other people get ahead, not themselves.”

This is Lee’s first ad of the primary cycle.

Kihuen hit the airwaves last week with an ad prominently featuring Sen. Minority Leader Harry Reid, who is backing Kihuen.

The initial ad buy is $73,000 for this week, and the spot will air on broadcast television, according to Lee’s campaign.
