Las Vegas firefighters put out blaze at vacant downtown building

A downtown building that was being prepared for demolition caught fire early this morning, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

The fire was reported about 4 a.m. at the old Union Pacific railroad building at 1001 Iron Horse Court, near Charleston Boulevard and Commerce Street, officials said. The fire was mostly extinguished within 20 minutes, and nobody was injured, officials said.

The building has been vacant for more than a year and it appeared squatters had been staying there, officials said.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
