Person critically injured in early morning fire

Updated Wednesday, May 3, 2017 | 11 a.m.

A person was in critical condition with burns after a fire early this morning at a townhouse near Desert Inn Road and Boulder Highway, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

The burn victim was taken to University Medical Center, while a second person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, officials said.

A dog also died in the fire, which was reported about 1:50 a.m. in the 700 block of Greenbriar Townhouse Way, officials said.

When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were coming from both floors of the two-story townhouse, officials said. The home was a total loss, and the fire did about $30,000 in damage to an adjacent unit, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters from the county and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue fought the blaze.

About 9:15 a.m., firefighters were called back to the complex for another fire and found smoke coming from the attic space between two townhouses, officials said.

Embers from the previous fire in the roof overhang apparently started the second blaze, officials said. Nobody was injured in the second incident, officials said.
