Liberty’s defense scored more touchdowns in Southeast league play than it gave up.

The Patriots scored their fifth defensive touchdown of the Southeast season in Thursday’s finale, as senior Alan Mwata returned an interception for a score as part of a 50-0 rout over Basic. Liberty only allowed two touchdowns, both against Green Valley, in claiming the division’s No. 1 seed.

The Patriots will host Eldorado next Friday.

“I like where we’re sitting — being the No. 1 seed, having home field advantage and guys getting healthier,” Liberty coach Rich Murao said. “Our defense is playing great.”

The same could be said for the offense. Senior Kenyon Oblad, the state’s all-time leading passer, added 293 yards and four touchdowns to his totals against the Wolves. Seniors Marquez Powell and Terris Hamilton each caught a scoring strike from Oblad, while junior Cervontes White hauled in a pair.

Freshman running back Zyrus Fiaseu continued his impressive campaign, picking up nearly 150 yards and two touchdowns.
