Las Vegas Sun's Ray Brewer and Case Keefer toast all the area teams who defeated out of state competition in week 1, and look forward to an almost-as-loaded week 2 schedule.

Spring Valley senior quarterback Sylo Stanton struggled with cramps throughout his team’s game with Valley Friday night.

No one would have been to able to tell based on his line in the box score, as Stanton compiled three total touchdowns — two passing and one rushing — in a 33-18 victory.

“It wasn’t as clean as we would have liked,” Spring Valley coach Marcus Teal said. “I felt we gave up some big, easy plays to Valley. They played well and earned all three of their scores but we gave them some short fields.”

Spring Valley was in total control with a 26-6 halftime lead, but didn’t play as well in the second half. The Grizzlies were able to stabilize somewhat behind senior running back Kevin Benoza, who had a touchdown and more than 100 rushing yards.

Senior Marquelle Diggs also returned a kickoff for a touchdown, as Spring Valley improved to 2-0 on the season.
