3 shot at North Las Vegas apartment complex; police searching for suspect

Three people were struck by gunfire Saturday afternoon outside of a North Las Vegas apartment complex, according to city police.

A man, 26, and a woman, 24, were rushed to University Medical Center in critical condition, but had been stabilized by Saturday evening, North Las Vegas Police Officer Eric Leavitt said. A second man, 37, was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene.

Gunfire rang out just before 3 p.m. in the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive, near Cheyenne Avenue, Leavitt said.

The initial investigation determined that two groups of people had been hanging out behind a building just prior to the shooting, Leavitt said. Detectives on Saturday night hadn’t determined a motive, how many guns were involved, or who the suspects were.

It wasn’t clear if the shooting stemmed from a group-versus-group spat or what set off the shooter or shooters, Leavitt said.

This was the third serious incident reported in North Las Vegas in less than 24 hours.

A road rage incident Friday night led officers to respond to a gas station near Cheyenne and Losee Road where they found two men with gunshots, Leavitt said. It wasn’t clear where the men were shot, but police determined the incident stemmed from a road-rage incident.

The victims were initially hospitalized in critical condition, but later stabilized, police said. The suspected gunman, Terence Fair, 54, was subsequently arrested and booked on two counts of attempted murder.

Later that night, North Las Vegas Police officers responded to a stabbing of a 21-year-old, who died at University Medical Center. Attendees of a house party the victim had showed up to in the 3500 block of Stanley Avenue heard “a lot of yelling” before they found out someone had been stabbed.

The homicide was not a random act of violence, police said.
