A 71-year-old man crossing a northeast valley street in a motorized wheelchair Sunday afternoon was hit by a car and died, according to Metro Police.
The incident was reported about 12:15 p.m. on Bonanza Road, east of Marion Drive. The man was crossing the street when a car headed west on Bonanza failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian and hit him, police said.
The man in the wheelchair, Jose Ortiz of Las Vegas, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The driver of the car, a 29-year-old North Las Vegas man, was not injured, police said.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
