A semitractor-trailer hauling $800,000 in dimes crashed early Tuesday, May 8, 2018, on Interstate 15 near Glendale, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

A semitractor-trailer loaded with $800,000 in dimes crashed on Interstate 15 northeast of Las Vegas early Tuesday, spilling bags of coins along the freeway, according to the Nevada Highway patrol.

The truck, contracted by the U.S. Treasury Department, was headed south about 3:30 a.m. near Glendale when it hit a guard rail and overturned, the patrol said. The driver and a passenger were taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, the patrol said.

Troopers secured the scene until a recovery team could arrive and collect the coins, the patrol said.

The driver was issued a citation on a count of failure to drive within marked lanes, the patrol said.
