Police: 2-year-old boy shot, killed by another child

Updated Wednesday, May 30, 2018 | 4:23 p.m.

Metro Police say a 2-year-old boy is dead after being shot by another child at an apartment complex in the northeast valley.

The incident happened shortly before noon today at an apartment in the 3900 block of Nellis Boulevard, near Nellis Air Force Base, police said. The boy was playing with four neighborhood children in a bedroom when he was shot in the forehead. All the children were under the age of 12.

Authorities say the boy's mother was in the apartment and ran into the room after the gun went off. A neighbor also came into the room and attempted to perform CPR on the boy.

Authorities say emergency medical personnel were called and pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

Police say it's possible that one of the children brought the gun to the apartment. It's unclear who owned the weapon.

It was the second shooting of a child in as many days. On Tuesday, a domestic disturbance at a southeast valley apartment escalated to a shooting that left a man dead and a newborn baby with a life-threatening wound, police said.
