Las Vegas breaks high temperature mark in August

The high temperature in Las Vegas today was 109 degrees, marking the 24th day in August where the high was 105 degrees or greater, according to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas.

That breaks the previous mark of 23 days of temperatures greater than 105 degrees in a month, which was recorded in 1969, the weather service said.

On Thursday, the high of 110 degrees in Las Vegas also established a daily record.

There is an extended heat warning through Sunday, when the high is projected to be 108 degrees, the weather service said. The Labor Day forecast on Monday calls for a high of 104 degrees.

The 10-day forecast calls for temperatures to remain in triple digits in early September. On Sept. 9, the high is only projected to reach 98 degrees.
