Boy, 16, slain in North Las Vegas shooting

A teenager was fatally shot Wednesday in a North Las Vegas neighborhood, according to city police.

The 16-year-old boy died at University Medical Center, North Las Vegas Police Officer Aaron Patty said.

Officers responded about 5:10 p.m. to the area of Coleman Street and San Miguel Avenue, not far from Cheyenne High School, and found the gravely wounded victim, Patty said.

A shooter hadn’t been identified as of Wednesday night, nor a possible motive determined, but investigators don’t believe it was a random shooting, Patty said. They were trying to determine how the suspect and victim knew each other, he added.

The gun blasted during a time of the evening when people are getting home from work, and Patty implored possible witnesses to come forward.
