Officers followed drops of blood through a North Las Vegas house and into the backyard on Friday. They found the lifeless body of Angel Arellano, 41, lying in a shed with stab wounds.

Arellano’s ex-wife gave detectives the information they needed to arrest her current boyfriend, Juan Miguel Angel Dolores, 22, on a count of murder, according to a declaration of arrest released Tuesday.

Dolores is accused of stabbing the victim a half-dozen times during an argument Friday in the 2800 block of Dogwood Avenue. He was arrested the following day.

Police responded to the scene near Cheyenne Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard North at 12:05 a.m. The woman told detectives that she got out of bed to find the men fighting inside the home, police said. The altercation led them through a front room, the kitchen and into the backyard.

The woman, who stayed inside the house, said she heard Arellano tell Dolores “to back off or he would stab him.” Shortly later, the boyfriend came running into the kitchen, his arm, hand and finger were slashed and bloodied, according to the complaint.

At that point, the woman’s teenage daughter appeared and was told by her mother to go check on Arellano, police said. She soon found the bloody slaying scene and began to scream.

Dolores said he needed medical help and left the home, but he never sought it, said police, citing a check at hospitals. Police said that the cuts he sustained are common on people who use a knife in an attack.

Dolores, who has an extensive crime record, including convictions for armed robbery and battery by a prisoner, was booked at the city of Las Vegas jail on $1 million bond.

He was taken into custody Saturday evening in the 5000 block of South Boulder Highway, near Flamingo Road, by an FBI-led fugitive task force following an “extensive investigation,” North Las Vegas Police said.
