Woman, 75, hit by bus in crosswalk, killed

A 75-year-old woman was hit and killed by a bus Wednesday night while crossing a downtown Las Vegas street in a marked crosswalk, according to Metro Police.

The woman was crossing Bonneville Avenue about 11:40 p.m. when she was hit by an Regional Transportation Authority of Southern Nevada bus that was attempting to turn left from Main Street onto Bonneville, police said.

The woman was knocked down and the bus rolled over her, police said. She was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The woman’s name was not released, pending notification of her family, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.

In a statement via Twitter, the RTC said it was "deeply saddened by this morning’s fatal accident that occurred in downtown Las Vegas. We extend our condolences to the victim’s friends and family."

The RTC said it was working closely with Metro as it continued to investigate the accident. The RTC and its contractors are committed to helping ensure public safety, the statement said.

"Bus drivers receive the highest standard of training in the industry, both as new employees and ongoing throughout their tenure as drivers," the RTC said.
