Confrontation led to fatal shooting outside southwest valley home, police say

An armed man was shot and killed in a southwest valley neighborhood early Thursday, according to Metro Police.

About 3:45 a.m., the shooting victim drove by a man’s house in the 8800 block of Canyon Saddle Street, got out of his car and confronted him in the driveway, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

It wasn’t clear what happened next, but the man allegedly pulled out a gun, which caused the home resident to pull out his own gun and open fire, killing him, Spencer said. The crime scene is near Pebble Road and Durango Drive.

That’s when a passenger of the car got out engaged the resident in a shootout before fleeing, Spencer said.

He was later found and taken into custody, Spencer said. The resident was interviewed and it wasn’t clear if he would face any charges.

The other gunman was taken into custody, but additional information on his status wasn’t provided.
