To mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, UNLV wants to reduce the number of students on campus by offering more remote-instruction courses in the upcoming fall semester.
“Our goal is to achieve a 50-50 mix of remote instruction and in-person courses, and we are on track to achieve that thus far,”UNLV interim Executive Vice President and Provost Chris Heavey said in a statement.
The fall semester starts Aug. 24 and ends Dec. 12.
Courses with more than 75 students will be offered remotely, and coronavirus-vulnerable students will be encouraged to take them, UNLV officials said.
“Additional courses will be shifted to remote instruction in consultation with instructors based on risk mitigation, suitability for remote delivery, and other factors,” the university said in a statement.
The updated curriculum will be unveiled in early July.
UNLV shifted all its courses online on March 23, after spring break, to help contain the spread of the virus.
“We are looking forward to welcoming you in the fall semester for what we hope and plan to be a more normal semester than the one you just valiantly completed,” Heavey said.
Professional health programs, which require in-person learning, will “operate under different procedures due to the unique nature of their curricula,” the release said.
“The university will continue to place the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff at the forefront of our decisions,” Heavey said.
