A motorist was impaired and on his phone when he blew through a red light in south Las Vegas Saturday morning, slamming into an SUV and killing its two occupants, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Christopher Lambert, 44, was booked on two counts of DUI resulting in death, and one count each of failing to obey a red traffic light, unlawful text, send, read or talking on the phone without handsfree technology and not wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said Tuesday.

He’s being held at the Clark County Detention Center without the possibility of bail. Lambert is due in court Wednesday morning, Las Vegas Justice Court records show.

The victims, Edwin Gutierrez-Franco, 46, and Jorge Franco, 36, were North Hollywood, Calif., residents, the patrol said.

The crash was reported shortly after 9 a.m. at the intersection of St. Rose Parkway and Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Preliminarily, the patrol said Lambert’s GMC was northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard when he ran a light and sideswiped a turning Honda Pilot.

The Honda’s driver died at the scene while his passenger was airlifted to University Medical Center, where he died, the patrol said.

Lambert also was treated at UMC before he was jailed, the patrol said.
