Metro Police on Thursday identified a man suspected in the shooting death Wednesday afternoon of a man at a southeast Las Vegas extended-stay hotel as Malik Hughes, 24.

Hughes was being held at the Clark County Detention Center without the possibility of bail on one count of murder, according to Las Vegas Justice Court logs.

Police responded about 2:40 p.m. to a report of multiple gunshot blasts at the Sportsman’s Royal Manor in the 5600 block of South Boulder Highway, near Tropicana Avenue, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

The victim had arrived with a woman to Hughes’ unit to talk to him about an ongoing property dispute, said Spencer, describing the suspected shooter as the woman’s ex-boyfriend.

At some point, Hughes pulled out a knife and cut both the woman and the victim, Spencer said.

After a struggle, the victim was walking away, outside the apartment, when Hughes came out with a gun and shot him, Spencer said.

The woman was treated for minor injuries, Spencer said.

Additional details were not immediately available.
