Students arrive at Rex Bell Elementary School on the first day of in-person school, Monday March 1, 2021.

The Clark County School District is dropping mask requirements for fully vaccinated students and staff in most situations.

The district said its new policy will go into effect Tuesday with the approval of the Southern Nevada Health District.

Under the new policy, staff members who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will not have to wear a mask at school or most district-sponsored events. The exception is graduation ceremonies, where everyone must wear a mask.

Masks will also be required for everyone on school buses, officials said.

Students will be allowed to go without masks based on their grade-level and vaccination status.

Masks will be optional for students in prekindergarten through third grade but required for all students in fourth and fifth grades.

Masks will be optional for students who are fully vaccinated in grades six through 12. Children who are 12 and older qualify for vaccinations.

Staff and students of any age, regardless of their vaccination status, do not have to wear masks while outdoors, officials said.
