UNLV vs San Jose State

Steve Marcus

UNLV Rebels running back Charles Williams (8) tries to fend off San Jose State Spartans cornerback Nehemiah Shelton (23) during the first half of an NCAA college football game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.

UNLV football picked up its first win since 2019, downing New Mexico, 31-17, and the Sun's Mike Grimala and Ray Brewer discuss the state of the program as the offseason looms.

Brewer believes the sky is the limit for the ascending program, while Grimala wants to see how the quarterback battle shakes out in the offseason before making predictions about 2022.

Brewer also gets fired up about UNLV basketball being picked to finish seventh in the Mountain West, as he believes the team's influx of transfers have the team positioned to be contenders in Kevin Kruger's first year.

Can the basketball team lock down a 3-0 start to the season? Can they score an upset win over some of the marquee opponents on the schedule? Or will this season be all about moral victories?

We discuss that and more on this edition of the Rebel Room.

The Rebel Room

UNLV basketball worse than Fresno State?

The UNLV basketball season starts this week as the Rebels look to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013. That's likely going to be a tough task considering the program was projected to finish seventh in the Mountain West. One spot ahead? Fresno State. Mike and Ray discuss the season, and Ray expresses confusion about how the preseason poll has the Bulldogs ahead of the Rebels.
