UNLV’s Desi-Rae Young wins league award after topping 1,000 career points

Desi-Rae Young continues to impress for the UNLV women’s basketball team.

The junior center, a local product from Desert Oasis High School, was named the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday in winning the award for the fifth time in her career.

Young scored a career-high 30 points in UNLV’s win Wednesday against Northern Arizona, becoming the 26th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points. She also had 14 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists against Northern Arizona.

UNLV (10-2) begin league play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Wyoming at Cox Pavilion.
