Gov. Steve Sisolak today ordered U.S. and Nevada flags be flown at half-staff on state grounds Monday in honor of a Metro Police detective killed in a car crash.

Justin Terry, 45, was killed last week when a truck hit a construction zone warning beam, which fell onto the Metro detective’s unmarked police vehicle, authorities said.

Funeral services for Terry, a husband with two sons, will be conducted Monday in Henderson.

Sisolak ordered flags lowered at the state Capitol and other public buildings and grounds from sunrise to sunset, his office said.

“Detective Terry served our community for more than two decades – we are endlessly grateful for his service and heartbroken at his death,” Sisolak said.

Sisolak said he and his wife, Kathy, were “sending our love and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

The crash happened about 7 a.m. on June 10 at U.S. 95 and the 215 Beltway in northwest Las Vegas.

The beam was put in place so tall vehicles would hit it before striking a nearby bridge under construction, Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Justin Hopkins said.

Terry, who was on duty at the time of the crash, had been with Metro almost 21 years.
