A man died after he was stabbed Friday while accompanying a friend to an apartment to gather some belongings from her ex-boyfriend, according to Metro Police.
The incident was reported about 8:20 p.m. in the 1500 block of Karen Avenue, near Maryland Parkway, police said.
An altercation broke out between the female and her ex-boyfriend, 21-year-old Jovanny Cuevas-Mendez, who pulled out a knife, police said.
The victim was stabbed after he stepped in to protect the female and a fight ensued, police said.
He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name was not released.
Cuevas-Mendez was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, where he was booked on a count of open murder, police said.
