Fans leave Coronado High School after the season opener against Sierra Vista was cancelled because of poor weather Friday, Aug. 18, 2023. Friday marked the opening of high school football season for some schools, but for others, the opener was delayed until next week because of potential historical rains and lightning.

Another season of high school football games is finally here.

We begin a new slate of games tonight in similar fashion: With the top Nevada teams in the spotlight.

Nationally-ranked Bishop Gorman is in Utah to face Corner Canyon, and perennial power Liberty travels into California to take on defending national champion St. John Bosco.

They aren’t the only teams stepping up to face out-of-state competition.

Foothill is in central California to take on Clovis East, while Arbor View hosts Cajon of San Bernardino, California.

Green Valley is taking on visiting Herriman of Utah, and Moapa Valley is playing longtime foe, Hurricane of Utah.

We are also monitoring the weather as Clark County is under a flood warning. Bishop Manogue-Las Vegas, Coronado-Sierra Vista, Spring Valley-Desert Pines, Basic Academy-SLAM!, Desert Oasis-Chaparral, Valley-Mater East, Durango-Western and Bonanza-Eldorado have all been canceled.

Here’s wishing all of our Southern Nevada schools a fun-filled and healthy season. Check back tonight for final scores and game recaps.
