Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney, 53, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, the fire department announced.

Warren Whitney, Clark County Fire Department deputy chief, died Monday night from complications due to an illness, Chief John Steinbeck announced in a news release.
Whitney, 53, joined the department in 1995 and served in the ranks of firefighter, engineer, captain and deputy fire chief. Warren was a long-time paramedic and served many years on the county's technical rescue team. He worked as a suppression captain and as a captain in charge of the training division, and he was a founding member of the Clark County Honor Guard.
Whitney believed in giving back to the community and was in charge of the Clark County Burn Foundation for many years. The foundation provides for those who have suffered loss due to fire or other emergencies and collects thousands of toys each year for children in need.
As deputy fire chief, Whitney was responsible for planning and preparing for special events. He also served as the incident commander on numerous Las Vegas events, including New Year's Eve, Las Vegas Raiders games, Las Vegas Golden Knights games, Electric Daisy Carnival, Formula One, and he was set to serve during Super Bowl 58.
Whitney had a passion for keeping people safe and worked tirelessly with law enforcement to ensure the well-being of the community. He was a phenomenal chief officer and will be missed by the department, family, friends, and the community.
