The Strip continues to buzz from the superstar performances that brought in 2023 over the weekend, but the biggest New Year’s Eve surprise took place at Wynn Las Vegas. A disco-themed VIP gala at the luxury resort wrapped up 2022 with an unannounced performance by the legendary Janet Jackson, who is gearing up for a huge arena tour this year that somehow does not currently include a stop in Sin City. Making the moment even more special was former Strip headliner Cher, who was in the audience after taking in Adele’s show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace earlier in the evening.
Another impromptu but not completely surprising performance took place at Mayfair Supper Club at Bellagio, where Bruno Mars was hosting a special late-night bash sponsored by his SelvaRey Rum brand after his New Year’s Eve headlining residency show at Dolby Live at Park MGM. Mars’ partner in Silk Sonic, Anderson .Paak, was DJing the party as DJ Pee .Wee, and the duo made time to hit the stage at the glamorous supper club for a few Silk Sonic songs. The throwback soul act dominated the Strip with residency shows at Dolby Live last year but currently only Mars is scheduled to play that room. DJ Pee .Wee has another gig behind the decks at Park MGM’s speakeasy and nightclub, On the Record, this Friday.
Speaking of Dolby Live, the white-hot venue will host Imagine Dragons for a private concert this week to kick off CES 2023 on Thursday. The concert will benefit the band’s Tyler Robinson Foundation, a nonprofit that supports families dealing with pediatric cancer, and thousands of tickets to the concert will be given away to the organization’s team members, volunteers and partners. Dolby and Park MGM will be surprising fans on social media today and tomorrow with free tickets.
Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club at the Linq Promenade continues its recent reopening momentum with a special celebration on Jan. 24 for National Beer Can Appreciation Day — an obviously important holiday. The date marks the first time beer was sold in cans in 1935, and since it coincides with the club’s “Trailer Park Tuesday” show, resident comedian Vicki Barbolak’s set will include happy hour prices on canned beer from 5 p.m. through midnight. Barbolak, who you know from “America’s Got Talent,” performs at Kimmel’s every Tuesday night this month at 7:30 p.m.
Local singer Kelly Vohnn and producer and choreographer Jennifer Romas are teaming up on a new show set to open at Notoriety on Jan. 29. “Evolve” debuts at 7 p.m. that night and is set to perform every Sunday, a light-hearted music and comedy show with rotating guest singers, a diverse soundtrack and live showboys. Vohnn says the limited engagement is “all about the fun, sexy side of womanhood.” Tickets start at $29 and are available at notorietylive.com.
