UNLV Takes On Air Force

UNLV Rebels center David Muoka (12) celebrates after a dunk against the Air Force Falcons during the first half of an NCAA basketball game Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, in Las Vegas.

The UNLV basketball program continues to see a steady stream of players heading for the exit, as David Muoka became the fourth player to enter his name in the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Muoka, a 6-foot-11 center, started 24 of 32 games last season and averaged 4.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. He follows sophomore Keshon Gilbert, senior Victor Iwuakor and freshman Keyshawn Hall into the portal.

Muoka started his college career at Lamar and was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. He transferred to UNLV following that campaign, and in 2022-23 he posted the best rebound rate and block rate among Scarlet and Gray players.

As a grad transfer, Muoka has one year of eligibility remaining and will be able to suit up right away for his next team.

A bout with confidence led to Muoka making just 40.9% from the free-throw line and a midseason stint on the bench, but his departure leaves UNLV dangerously thin in the frontcourt. Seniors Isaiah Cottrell and Karl Jones are the only centers currently on the 2023-24 roster, and they combined for just 10 games and 50 minutes last season.
