The UNLV basketball team is hitting the road this year.
The 2023-24 nonconference schedule was announced Thursday, and the Scarlet and Gray will play five games outside of Las Vegas, including two true road games. Throw in a couple games at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, and UNLV will play more games away from the Thomas & Mack Center than they’ll play on their home court.
UNLV will open the season on Nov. 8 hosting Southern at the Mack. Stetson will come to town on Nov. 11, and then Kevin Kruger’s squad will pack their bags. First, they’ll travel to Pepperdine for a true roadie on Nov. 17, then the team will turn around and head across the country to Daytona, Fla., for the Sunshine Slam.
The Sunshine Slam is a two-day “multiteam event” which also features Florida State, Colorado and Richmond. UNLV will take on Florida State on Nov. 20, then match up against either Colorado or Richmond the next day.
Another key contest comes Dec. 6, when UNLV travels again for a road game at Dayton. After that, it’s two games in Henderson against Loyola Marymount (Dec. 9) and Creighton (Dec. 13), then a trip to Phoenix for a neutral-site game against Saint Mary’s.
UNLV will wrap nonconference play with a pair of home games at the Mack against Hofstra (Dec. 21) and Carroll College (Dec. 31). The Mountain West portion of the schedule picks up on Jan. 6 at San Diego State.
The nonconference slate appears more challenging than last year’s lineup, as Saint Mary’s and Creighton both qualified for NCAA Tournament in 2023. Creighton advanced to the Elite Eight.
