Pedestrian hit and killed by vehicle in Las Vegas; driver charged in connection

A driver who allegedly left the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash Friday morning on South Fort Apache Road has been arrested, a Metro Police release states.

Denise Velez, 30, of Las Vegas was booked into Clark County Detention Center for one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

Velez was driving south on Fork Apache Road in the left-most lane approaching the intersection of Rochelle Avenue when she struck a 41-year-old man walking in the lane, according to the release.

She failed to stop for the crash and left the scene, the release says.

Metro responded to the scene of the crash about 5 a.m. The pedestrian was dead by the time medical personal responded.

Police reviewed evidence at the scene, witness statements and video surveillance to indicate the vehicle involved in the crash, the release says. The crash remains under investigation.
