Police: Las Vegas man, 78, killed in head-on crash

A 78-year-old man was killed Sunday in a head-on crash with a car driven by a man who was subsequently arrested on a DUI count, according to Metro Police.

The crash was reported about 10:40 p.m. on Buffalo Drive, near the intersection with Peacock Avenue, police said.

A Honda Accord was headed south on Buffalo at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a sweeping right turn, police said. It crossed the median into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a Hyundai Sonata, police said.

Both drivers were taken to University Medical Center, police said.

The driver of the Hyundai, a Las Vegas man, was pronounced dead, police said. His name was not released pending notification of his family, police said.

The driver of the Honda, a 23-year-old Las Vegas man, suffered moderate injuries, police said. He displayed signs of impairment and was booked in absentia on counts of DUI resulting in a death and reckless driving resulting in a death, police said.
