Police: Las Vegas boy riding bike hit by pickup truck, critically injured

An 11-year-old Las Vegas boy riding an electric bicycle was critically injured today when he was hit by a pickup truck, according to Metro Police.

The collision happened about 7:45 a.m. at Cactus Avenue and Cliff Lake Street, in the southwest valley, police said.

The truck was stopped at a stop sign north on Cliff Lake at Cactus, while the boy was riding west on the south sidewalk along Cactus, police said.

The cyclist exited the sidewalk into the intersection as the pickup turned right onto Cactus, striking the boy, police said.

The boy was thrown from the bike and run over by the truck, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

The pickup driver, a 39-year-old Las Vegas man, did not display any signs of impairment, police said. He was not injured, police said.

The collision remains under investigation, police said.
