Man died while in Metro custody this week in Las Vegas

A man died while in Metro Police custody this week, according to a news release, but his cause of death wasn’t stated.

Officers had responded to a fight in a parking lot of a business in the 4700 block of West Charleston Boulevard at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, the release stated.

When they arrived, Michael Turner, whom Metro stated had been involved in the fight, was found in a parking lot across the street entering his vehicle.

As Turner attempted to drive out of the parking lot, an officer followed and observed the vehicle drive onto a median before reversing and hitting the officer’s patrol vehicle, the release stated.

The officer told Turner to get out, and as he did, he immediately laid on the ground, the release stated.

Another officer arrived and Turner was then taken into custody.

After several minutes, a supervisor arrived and noticed that Turner appeared unresponsive. The supervisor told an officer to remove the handcuffs and administer Narcan. The Narcan did not appear to work, and officers began CPR on Turner as medical assistance arrived, the release stated.

Turner was taken to UMC, where he later died, police stated.

The cause and manner of Turner’s death will be released later by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

An investigation of the incident is ongoing.
