On Wednesday evening, police responded to reports of an alleged attempted carjacking by Ismail Castillo, 29, who was armed with a knife, in the 4000 block of South Maryland Parkway, the release stated.

After the attempted robbery, Castillo ran into a store where he stole and armed himself with a second knife. After leaving the store, he ran toward the 1000 block of Flamingo Road, the release stated.

Additional officers then arrived in the area and located Castillo. While they were attempting to deploy less-lethal options for the suspect, he charged at the officers; Sgt. Brett Brosnahan fired his weapon in response, police stated.
