Driver arrested on DUI charges after hitting and killing pedestrian in Las Vegas

A pedestrian died Tuesday night after being hit by a vehicle, according to a Metro Police news release. 

The 69-year-old man was crossing East Charleston Boulevard east of South 10th Street inside a crosswalk shortly after 9 p.m. As he was crossing, the traffic light changed from red to green as a Ford Escape was approaching, causing the vehicle to hit the pedestrian, the release stated.

The pedestrian was transported to UMC Trauma in critical condition, where he died of his injuries this morning.

The driver of the Ford, Miguel Valdivia, 33, allegedly showed signs of impairment and was subsequently booked on DUI-related charges, police stated.
