Henderson Police announce campaign focused on seat belt violations

Henderson Police will be putting extra emphasis over the next two weeks on motorists not wearing a seat belt, officials said.

The department will be participating in a national “Click it or Ticket” campaign through May 31, officials said.

The effort is being supported by $196,000 in federal funding for seat belt initiatives through the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

Officers will conduct “saturation patrols” and check for seat belt usage when stopping drivers for traffic violations, officials said. Seat belt violations are a secondary offense.

The program is a product of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which said the 2023 campaign helped spur a national seat belt usage rate of 91.9%.

Using a seat belt reduces the risk of death in a car crash by up to 45%, Henderson officials said.
