A 10-week-old puppy was found abandoned and badly injured in Boulder City on Aug. 19, 2024.

An abandoned, badly injured puppy found in Boulder City was apparently the victim of abuse in Arizona, authorities said.

Detectives in Boulder City determined the puppy, which was discovered Aug. 19, was injured across the state line in Mohave County, Ariz.

“As this horrendous crime occurred in another state, the investigation has been transferred to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office,” Boulder City Police said in a statement.

Police did not indicate how they determined where the alleged abuse took place.

Boulder City Animal Control picked up the 10-week-old Rottweiler mix after a resident discovered it in an alley, police said.

The male puppy was taken to the Boulder City Animal Hospital and treated for a dislocated jaw, eye and facial damage and missing teeth, police said.

One of the puppy’s eyes had to be removed, and he will need to remain on a feeding tube for another five to six weeks, police said.

Veterinarians determined the puppy’s injuries were consistent with human animal abuse, police said.

The puppy, which rescuers named Seven, is still undergoing treatment in Boulder City and has undergone two surgeries, police said.

"The detectives of the Boulder City Police Department and Animal Control officers are thankful for the outpouring of support from the community," Lt. Thomas Healing said.

The puppy’s medical bills have been paid in full thanks to “a tremendous outpouring of care and donations from the community,” police said.

"We urge anyone with information to contact the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible," police said. The office can be reached at 928-753-0753.
