Bishop Gorman High football coach Brent Browner preaches consistency in game preparation.
The week of practice leading to kickoff typically looks and feels the same, regardless of the opponent, he says.
He feels the structure is paramount to obtaining a positive outcome on game day, which is something Gorman has mastered in a 27-game win streak entering tonight’s showdown at Mater Dei of southern California.
The highly anticipated game is a battle of the nation’s top-ranked teams, and the winner will have an inside track at being voted national champions at the end of the season.
Gorman hasn’t lost since August 2022, when it squandered a late lead against Mater Dei.
Tonight isn’t necessarily about revenge, Browner has repeatedly said. These, after all, are two different teams.
Rather, tonight is about making a statement on the quest for another national title.
It, of course, isn’t the lone game on the docket.
Liberty is also in California and faces a tough test against 15th-ranked Mission Viejo; Coronado hosts Lincoln of San Diego; the annual Henderson Bowl rivalry between visiting Green Valley and Basic will be renewed, and Virgin Valley takes to North Las to challenge Mojave in what could be the closest game on the docket.
