Voter turnout was light throughout Clark County on Tuesday for the municipal primary elections in Henderson, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Mesquite. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will closed at 7 p.m.
The political landscape in Southern Nevada will change significantly in the coming months and possibly as soon as the next few weeks. Early voting has begun for the valley’s municipal primary elections, which take place April 7, with some key posts up for grabs.
Minority issues in a time of economic crisis dominated the discussion at a Thursday evening candidates' forum at the Henderson Convention Center, which attracted few candidates and a sparse audience.
In 2007 the city of Henderson started recognizing that while early voting was growing in popularity, voter turnout on Election Day itself was declining. In an effort to better utilize its budget and provide Henderson residents with more options for Election Day voting, the city launched its inaugural Vote Centers.

A Boulder City Council candidate said automated phone calls falsely accusing him of lying about his work and volunteer experience will not derail his campaign from focusing on important issues.
The race between City Councilman Steve Ross and attorney Jennifer Taylor has so captivated Ward 6 residents that 262 of them cast ballots during the first three days of early voting.
Staff recommendations, wasteful contracts, business license fees, employee salaries, parks and recreation. That's where Henderson mayoral candidates Amanda Cyphers, Steve Kirk, Mike Mayberry, Andy Hafen and Richard Sipan, respectively, said they'd look for the fat should further budget cuts be needed at the city.

Thanks in large part to voters’ excitement about Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy last year, a record number of residents in North Las Vegas and Henderson registered to vote in the November election.
When Henderson voters begin heading to the polls March 21 for early voting, they'll see something the city hasn't seen since 1993 — a list of mayoral candidates that doesn't include James B. Gibson.
Early voting for the April 7 primary election got underway Wednesday in North Las Vegas, which traditionally begins the election season in Southern Nevada. Other local governments don’t start early voting until Saturday.
Bill Smith says city wrongfully refused to play his campaign video on BCTV

A City Council candidate said he plans to sue the city over being denied airtime on the city’s public access television station. Bill Smith said he feels the city has unjustly refused to play his 26-minute campaign tape on BCTV and will seek legal action in District Court.
Nine City Council candidates at a forum last night took the floor for five minutes each. Some used the time to refute accusations, some touted their qualifications and a couple ended with a blaring bullhorn.
