Depends on the cost. If they can make the ticket something around $30 or less, it's worth it.
I'd pay the $50 price if the train actually went where I wanted to go...
Why would anyone want to go to Los Angeles? And Fast?
What a terrible idea and a big waste of money.
lol to victorville? riiiiight. anyone voting yes is lying or isn't telling the full story
Yes, I'd use it. But wouldn't that cause that dusty little pit stop of a town named Baker to dry up and blow away?
Yes, but only if it goes to Anaheim, takes less than three hours, and is less than $30 per ticket. No one will want to get off/on at Victorville -- better to go all the way to Anaheim or at least connect to CA's proposed high speed train system.
Currently too many unknowns, will 'consider' patronage if/when option becomes available.
FWIW: Did not participate in poll.
I would not use a train to go to California. I won't even drive myself to California. No thank you. I'd rather stay away from that state.
It is going to take a lot more people than have made a positive response to this poll to pay for this train. 2/3 might ride it but not every day or even every year. Ridership estimates are tough to do right and there is a history of them being a little low or failing to peak after service is routine.
Most people would end up having to ride the train and maintain alternative transportation, like a car, too. The train, especially the high speed train, is a competitor with airlines, not cars.
Notice that the Sun poll doesn't ask if you would take a high-speed train from Las Vegas to Victorville. Your only voting choice is to "Southern California." If the question were more specific, I guarantee the results of this poll wouldn't be so heavily weighted to the pro-train stance of Brian Greenspun and the Sun.
"Why would anyone want to go to Los Angeles? And Fast?"
So they can visit their relatives after they've moved here.
A train to Victorville?? And then I wait in line to get a rental car to drive to LA? Pardon me public officials - apparently you do not understand this little problem. Instead of pretending to spend money for the tax payer's concern, how about you travel to Victorville and experience this little jaunt yourselves?
There is bowling in Victorville...
No way I live in Maine
On Sundays going south, I-15 can turn into bumper-to-bumper traffic or even a parking lot! As I-15 becomes more and more congested, the train will look better and better.
Also, you can read a book or newspaper on the train. Better not read a book or newspaper while driving.
The plan needs to include a connecting spur to the end of the Yellow Line in Pasadena. Then people can continue by rail into parts of L.A. serviced by the existing Metro Rail system there, OR rent a car to get to outlying areas.
Jamming everyone into Victorville sounds like some Nevada politicians have some land investments there.
LOL Journey re: Baker blowing away. Good thing we have our own Mad Greek restaurant now!
too ambiguous choices to vote on, L.A. good, Victorville next to pointless. would be worth living here and working in LA for the week or vise versa if it wasn't for Victorville.
As the earlier comment stated, the end point would have to connect with LA public transit system and also at our end it would have to end at the Downtown transportation center and have stops along the strip or the Monorail.
The Sun needs to ask where is the train going to originate in Vegas? Will there be easy public transportation to get to it or are you going to build a massive parking lot?
I would definitely ride the fast maglev into LA. I would not ride the train to Victorville.
