The Tuff-N-Uff amateur mixed martial arts league recently named its heavyweight belt after fighting legend Randy Couture, with Carl Postma scoring a first-round victory Friday against Brandon Browning at the Cox Pavilion to become the belt’s first holder.
Prior to the fight, there was a ceremony to honor Couture. He spoke about the importance of the Tuff-N-Uff promotion in fostering the next generation of fighters.
“It is an honor to have one of the belts named after me,” said the recently retired Couture, the former UFC heavyweight champ and one of the sport's icons. “My son (Ryan Couture) and other amateur fighters have gone through and developed their skills in the Tuff-N-Uff amateur series with their aspirations to become professionals similar to myself.”
Postma improved to 2-0 with the win. More importantly, he became the first to possess the Randy Couture Heavyweight Belt.
“He’s everybody’s hero,” Postma said. “He’s the man. He’s The Natural. You’ve got to love everything he’s done. “
