We have a transactional president who thinks everything is a bargaining chip.
He believes human rights are something you can trade to get a better deal. He can’t conceive of that as being morally wrong. He is willing to trade democracy for millions to get that better deal. That is exactly how an unethical businessman does business.
There are some things that are not negotiable, and human rights is one of them. President Donald Trump created a problem. He got himself into a trade war and can’t extricate himself. So now he is going to use the freedom of the citizens of Hong Kong as his bargaining chip.
Is this who we are now?
