Letter to the editor:

Climate change must be job No. 1

Southern Nevada residents continue to face energy and water challenges as our population sees a record population influx from California and elsewhere.

I was inspired when Las Vegas made headlines in December 2016 for attaining 100% sustainable municipal energy. We must work toward real solutions and dispel misinformation with evidence that will inform Nevadans about climate change. Importantly, Nevada is the nation’s most arid state, with Las Vegas ranking as the fastest-warming city in the nation.

These crucial facts underscore the urgency for immediate action to support the 100% Clean Economy Act, which would transition the United States to sustainable energy by 2050.

Amid the chaos of the current presidential administration, we have lost sight of our not-so-long-term consequences affecting future generations. We risk a mass exodus the longer we make excuses to delay these decisions.
