LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Nevadans: Put on your masks

I admire Gov. Steve Sisolak’s resolve to protect the people of Nevada from COVID-19 by the early and continuing shutdown. I only wish he would issue a mandate to include the wearing of protective masks when our residents are outdoors, shopping, exercising or doing other activities.

Recently, when shopping at a nursery to purchase vegetable plants for my home garden, I was shocked to note that about half the people shopping were not wearing masks. The cashier wasn’t wearing any protective gear either.

When picking up food from various restaurants and food establishments, many workers were not wearing masks or gloves. At the pick-up locations of some grocery stores, employees were not wearing protective gear.

Why not consider these essential items a fashion statement as well as a requirement? They may also be considered a symbol of universal friendship and care for others.
