LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

America needs wartime unity

I was born in 1942, during World War II. When I turned 5 or 6, people still talked about the war effort, the tremendous response by almost all Americans in supporting the troops and their families during the conflict and upon the soldiers’ return. Yes, there were a few dissenters, but that’s to be expected.

Our president said a few months ago that he is now a “wartime president,” without any understanding what that means. But watching his actions, and those of many Americans as we fight this war against a virus is depressing. If we had the same groups protesting the effort during World War II, most of our country would now be speaking German or Japanese.

Masks, social distancing and hand washing are the least we can do to win this war.
