The Democrat-controlled House should have investigated President Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine call using its various committees. Once they gathered whatever evidence they could and got it out into the public, they should have voted to censure the president.
This president was never going to be removed from office by a GOP-controlled Senate, and everyone should have known that. In order to get it on record quickly that this president acted in a way that he should not have, the Democrats truncated the impeachment process and, consequently, the articles and the process were weak and therefore could be challenged.
Democrats should now accept the outcome and go back and vote on censure.
