Letter to the editor:

Guns aren’t going anywhere

I am amused when people say that politicians should “put the people before the National Rifle Association.” What do these people think the NRA is, foreigners? The NRA is Americans, millions of people joined using our First Amendment right to peaceably assemble. We are people from across the country, from all states, political parties, races and ethnicities, with a common belief that our rights are important enough to protect.

Moreover, I get a kick out of people who talk about changing the Constitution. Abolishing the Second Amendment would require an affirmative vote of two-thirds of both houses of Congress and three-fourths of the states. Good luck with that.

And then, they’d have to figure out how to confiscate 300 million weapons and a few hundred billion rounds of ammo from over 100 million armed citizens. Really, good luck with that.
