LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Don’t follow Trump’s orders

There he goes again. Not content with bungling the response to the pandemic and then twisting governors’ arms to reopen their states’ economies too early, President Donald Trump now wants to repeat the same mistake by reopening schools without enforcing safeguards recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. What could possibly go wrong?

This is the guy who first labeled the virus a hoax; then told us the virus would magically disappear in warm weather. Then he hyped an anti-malaria medication and speculated we should inject ourselves with bleach. Where did he get his medical degree, Trump University?

He wants to open schools, not because it can be done safely but because he needs parents to go back to work if he is to have any chance of getting the economy off of life-support.

His pitch is that the virus is here and we have to learn to live with it, implying there is nothing we can do. I call BS. It is controllable and it’s not rocket science. Just do what Europe did. The EU population is in excess of 400 million and the EU infection rate is now stable in the range of 4,000 people per day. Our population is about 320 million and our infection rate is 60,000 people per day and growing. Are Europeans smarter than us? Their leaders sure seem smarter than ours.
