LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Wearing masks boosts economy

Besides seeing, throughout the country, many rallies against wearing masks in public, I have noticed that when I venture out to the grocery store, many shoppers don’t feel they should be wearing masks.

A good percentage of those who aren’t wearing masks must be either out of work or at least have seen their livelihood affected by this pandemic. It makes someone like me uncomfortable when others aren’t wearing masks at grocery stores, restaurants, clothing stores or other retail establishments such as bars, movie theaters, hotels, etc.

And making me feel uncomfortable affects the non-mask wearers and their recovery.

I am 78 years old, in good health and in the process of retiring. I have the finances to travel and spend money at restaurants and clothing stores. But I am not willing to risk getting infected when going out to these public places. People in my position could directly help those who are suffering, if we felt comfortable to go out and spend our money, which would greatly support the recovery. That would help those maskless individuals get back to work.

Government help will not last forever.
